English Estates: The Academy Award Smooth Bent Bulldog (331C) Tobacco Pipe

This bent Bulldog from The Academy Award, a lesser-known sub-brand of Comoy's, is an archetypal example of the classic Anglo-French shape. The bowl stands on a pointed heel, its walls flaring toward twin beadlines before they taper inward to a flat rim. Out back, the shape's trademark diamond shank lifts upward to find a saddle stem of black vulcanite. Said stem holds the same diamond shape at its base before it tapers and subtly curves to the bit. Dressing this piece is a chestnut stain that highlights lovely birdseye along the right flank of the bowl.
