English Estates: Dunhill County (3129) (2017) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-002-39637
A seriously special find, Dunhill's "29" shape is so rare it doesn't appear on their regular shape chart, making it a highly sought after commodity, coveted by collectors. We've only seen a handful of examples, both fresh and estates, with this particular piece being rendered in Group 3 proportions. The shape was designated as the "CK" before 1975, and many looked to the estate market in hopes of finding one. Even there, however, they've been few and far between. Needless to say, if you've been on the hunt for a Dunhill Author, now is your chance, and this Cumberland offering is eager and waiting.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
