French Estates: Unknown Carved Native American (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-10446
Figural designs are more commonly fashioned from meerschaum due to the material's relative ease of carving, making this briar piece a rarity. Crafted by an unknown maker, this figural is rendered with a depiction of a Native American, donned with a feathered headdress atop his flowing head of hair and carved with a wrinkled face that bespeaks his years of acquired wisdom. A compact, upturned shank emerges from the bowl out back and meets a smartly bent tapered stem, the arrangement offering a comfortable smoking posture. Dressing the stummel is a warm, smooth finish that accentuates the intricate detail of this piece.
