French Estates: GBD Concorde Carved Bent Billiard (508) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-003-8238
In 1850, pipe makers Ganneval, Bondier, and Donniger established a firm in Paris and the brand GBD, a combination of each initial, was born. Earlier than most, GBD recognized the unique advantages of making briar pipes. During its first 40 years, GBD was awarded over 15 medals of achievement for their pipes worldwide; accomplishments that aided in spreading the brand to international recognition.
This "508" bent Billiard is a handsomely rendered take on the shape. From a rounded heel, the bowl's cylindrical walls taper slightly as they reach toward a chamfered rim. Married to the bowl, a well-bent shank lifts into a curved saddle stem of black vulcanite. Said curvature promotes comfortable jaw hanging, making this piece ideal for a multitasking smoker. Courtesy of GBD's Concorde carved finish, the stummel wears a rippling, bark-like rustication beneath a dark, mahogany stain.
