French Estates: GBD Speciale Tomato (110) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-003-8312
Forged in Paris in 1850 by three men looking to make new strides for the pipe industry, GBD was the brainchild of Ganneval, Bondier, and Donninger. Initially specializing in meerschaum pipes, GBD won 15 medals of achievement within its first 40 years. These awards set the stage for the company's success in Europe, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and the U.S.A. Eventually, in 1902, the company was sold to A. Oppenheimer & Co., which brought the business to England.
This "110" Tomato from GBD is an incredibly lightweight iteration of the shape-chart standard. It's petite and compact profile makes it an ideal option for travel and its small tobacco chamber provides ample short and satisfying smoking sessions. Its bowl is squat, rising from a sweeping heel. Out back, a trim shank-and-stem combination gradual tapers as it bends toward the bit. The vulcanite mouthpiece complements the lightly-stained stummel, where handsome grain is seen throughout.
