French Estates: Genod Corne Smooth Billiard with Horn (30) Tobacco Pipe

The Genod brand dates back to 1865 when pipe-making pioneer Comoy's founded a workshop in Saint-Claude to produce classically French pipes. Today, all Genod pipes are crafted by French pipe maker Sebastien Beaud, whose style pays homage to the rich pipe making history of Saint-Claude. With a background in woodworking, pipe making was a natural progression for Beaud, and his passions were solidified after his first trip to Saint-Claude where he spent time visiting pipe maker Robert Vincent. It didn’t take long for Beaud to secure a summer job working at Genod, where he began learning the ins and outs of the pipe industry. Genod’s Jacques “Jacky” Craen passed the workshop’s baton to Beaud in 2006, where he still works and carries on the legacy of quality pipe craftsmanship today.

Sebastien Beaud and his colleague, Jean Bouloc, produce all of Genod’s pipes, crafting each piece on machinery designed in Saint-Claude specifically for pipe making. This machinery uses a systematic approach to pipe making, using a series of lathes that are arranged for specific crafting aspects to eliminate the need for adjustments. The style of Genod pipes are as traditional as the machinery used to make them. The workshop specializes in classic designs, with a profile all but unchanged since the early beginnings of the workshop. Genod focuses on making simple, reliable pipes that showcase the natural beauty of the briar through timeless finishes and silhouettes. The workshop uses incredibly old briar as well, making these pipes hardly distinguishable from something crafted 100 years ago.
