German Estates: Joura Smooth Paneled Apple (Infinity A)
Product Number: 004-005-4631
Karlheinz Joura likes to play with the juxtaposition of seemingly different geometric forms, and this paneled Apple rendition is an interesting example, though slightly different from those we've seen from the carver as of late. Rather than present a broad, curve-laden bowl and something of a structured, architectural shank, the carver has here done the opposite, taking the typically rounded bowl and imbuing it with a firm-lined, faceted disposition. He's also compressed it along the mid-section, and paired it to a stretch of rounded, robust shank. It still shows Joura's penchant for lending shapes a good bit of implied momentum, not to mention for coaxing the best from a given block, as you can see by that lively, windswept grain. Condition is good, with only a spot of rim darkening.
