German Estates: Frank Axmacher Smooth Freehand with Boxwood (2016) (Unsmoked)

Product Number: 004-005-4659

Frank Axmacher's work can usually be called a variation on the Danish school, often with some whimsical play on proportions or accents. This freehand is something else entirely, plump and Acorn-like of bowl, with a cinched waist leading to a similarly plump shank-end. The dark stain of the piece has been accented by a broad accent of pale boxwood, while the vulcanite mouthpiece is positioned with a rearward-flicking gesture and a lithe stance that gives the whole of the piece a touch of forward momentum. Excellent work, and still unsmoked.
