German Estates: Manuel Shaabi Smooth Brandy (9mm)

Product Number: 004-005-4723

Manuel Shaabi made a name for himself as an independent carver after an apprenticeship at Pipe Dan, though we don't see many of his pipes come through our estate department. An experienced wood carver and cabinet maker, his skill shows, even in rather classic designs like this Brandy. Plump of base and gently tapering of rim, it's firm in hand, with a sleek, trim shank offering some dynamism, emphasizing the bowl's rather stout proportions. It's neat work, and while not quite in line with the "briar as meerschaum" motif for which Shaabi has become known, it showcases his ability to fashion affable versions of the classics as well. Condition is still good, too, just some rim darkening, faint chamber carbonizing, and a few dings around the bowl.
