German Estates: Joura Smooth Bent Brandy (Infinity) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-005-4887
One of Germany's premier pipe makers, Karlheinz Joura was a world-class, competitive diver before finding his way to pipe making in 1974. His work is sought after the world over by discerning collectors, and his style is informed by Danish design but with signature shaping cues that make every Joura pipe distinct. One such recognizable aspect is the German carver's characteristic transition. Evident here on this bent Brandy, the shank extends into the lower bowl further than would be considered standard — it creates a strong sense of the cheeking and visually separates the bowl from the shank. Said bowl is quite tall, housing a capacious chamber and exhibits a subtle taper from its plump, voluptuous base toward the flat rim. Hearty in hand and beautifully sinuous, this Infinity-graded composition proves itself with tight tendrils of flame grain while the cumberland stem pairs handsomely with the stummel's rich, warm contrast stain. It's presented here in unsmoked condition.-Truett Smith
