German Estates: Frank Axmacher Smooth Wideshank Freehand (2018)
Product Number: 004-005-4993
With its wide shank and sleek turn to the underside, this Freehand from Frank Axmacher is serpentine in its curvature, bringing to mind some of the Cobra shapes we've seen. At the bowl, however, it erupts into a plump and well-rounded piece, the transition almost tucked at the upper edge, and allowing for some extra definition. The entirety of the piece seems to have been designed to show off the briar's natural grain, which streaks the bowl and shank edges with flame, while a sea of birdseye is packed onto the wide expanse of the shank's top and underside alike. Stunning piece.- Chuck Stanion
