German Estates: Reiner Smooth Dublin (AS)
Product Number: 004-005-5053
Reiner pipes were originally made by Reiner Klein before Rudiger Lutz Will acquired the name in the late '80s. Most of Rudiger's pipes are quite classically inclined, but this Dublin is a more stylish and whimsical design, combining elements of the Horn and Zulu shapes. With a subtle bend of the stem and dramatic cant to the bowl, it calls to mind the Zulu, but the shank expands gradually into the bowl like the Horn. Furthermore, the shank boasts a triangular cross section for accenting firmness that matches with the hard line delineating the domed rim. A creative and tasteful piece from Reiner, it benefits from stunning grain and a cumberland stem.-Truett Smith
