German Estates: Frank Axmacher Partially Sandblasted Rhodesian (EB07) (2007) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-005-5055
Compared to his organic designs and striking Freehands, this Rhodesian from Frank Axmacher is on the more traditional, conservative end of the German carver's shaping spectrum. However, compared to, say, a classic English marque, this design is quite the departure: While it features the Rhodesian's iconic, tapered bowl, here wrapped by a ridgeline, the shank exudes added flourish, flaring dramatically in horizontal orientation toward the stem and flowing deftly into the heel for a defined style that still maintains a consistent undercurve in profile. Further differentiating this piece's various elements, Frank employed a dual finish. The upper bowl and rim are smooth and contrast-stained, while the rest of the stummel wears a dark-stained sandblast. Unsmoked.-Truett Smith
