German Estates: Frank Axmacher Partially Sandblasted Dublin with Bamboo (2014)
Product Number: 004-005-5060
A forward and organically inclined Dublin from Frank Axmacher, this moderately sized pipe offers a broad, undulating rim of smooth birdseye. That rim emphasizes the natural-esque attitude of the bowl, which perches in an Acorn attitude at the end of the slender shank, rounded at the lifting heel and draped in a dark sandblast highlighting the excellent orientation of the growth rings. That shank expands somewhat with the pale bamboo extension, which here places the single knuckle at the end where it joins the slender stem. The placement of that knuckle provides its own natural accent before the single expansion ring of the stem echoes it. This is a splendid composition, replete with personality and creative use of elements for a distinctive, rugged aesthetic that projects enormous sophistication.- Chuck Stanion
