German Estates: Frank Axmacher Sandblasted Dublin with Horn (2014)
Product Number: 004-005-5061
Frank Axmacher typically enjoys carving plumply curved and organically inclined shapes, but this Dublin displays a more streamlined and traditional aesthetic. Arrow straight through the shank and stem, the form terminates at a thick-walled, forward-canted bowl of subtle flare toward the rim. Said rim contrasts against the stummel's dark, sandblasted palette with a smooth, walnut stain that highlights dense swirls of birdseye. A generous section of horn extends the shank and offers playful line work in silhouette — the end flaring suddenly to echo the bowl and align with the expansion disk of the stem base. Furthermore, the heel dips slightly downward to balance the outward flare of the horn, making for an attractive and cohesive composition of functional art.-Truett Smith
