German Estates: Rainer Barbi Smooth Paneled Apple (BC) (092) (1987-1992)

Product Number: 004-005-5114

Accentuated by crisply framed, hexagonal panels, this Apple from the late Rainer Barbi is a broad-chambered, charmingly poised piece. A chamfered rim softens the form a bit, while a flattened underside allows the pipe to sit stably upright. The bowl is the focal point of the composition, with the compact length of shank and stem balancing things out nicely. Dressed in a smooth, auburn stain that highlights a mixture of cross grain and birdseye across its facets, this pipe nonetheless provides textural enjoyment via the bowl's framework. One of the carver's bright variegated stems adds a brilliant pope of color, with the shaping and finish gracing this piece embodying the talents of the revered, late German artisan.
