German Estates: Manuel Shaabi Rusticated Rhodesian
Product Number: 004-005-5290
A Lebanese artisan who moved to Germany in the late 1970s, Manuel Shaabi enjoyed a prolific woodworking career before transitioning to pipe making. Early on he applied his acumen for furniture design and restoration as an apprentice in the Pipe-Dan workshop and eventually progressed to carving pipes under his own name. One such piece is offered here, displaying a classic Rhodesian shape. As the form requires, it bears a rounded shank fitted to a Bulldog bowl, and that bowl is of the taller, more Egg-like variety, with twin beadlines wrapping the bowl's widest portion. The briar around those beadlines is smooth-finished, adding a subtle accenting touch to the rest of the stummel's dense rustication.-Truett Smith
