German Estates: Frank Axmacher Smooth Freehand with Bamboo (2015) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-005-6564

A German artisan, Frank Axmacher is not only a pipe maker, he is also a stonemason and sculptor, contributing to his unique style. Once a student of Tom Eltang and Rainer Barbi, Axmacher is now a master pipe maker himself. This Freehand by Frank Axmacher possesses a shapely bowl that bulges horizontally at a low-set waistline, giving this pipe a rather trim profile and a robust in-hand feel. The plump walls showcase vertical grain rising from the heel that subtly blends into birdseye near the asymmetrical rim, which features a trim, organic outcropping of plateau. Out back, a slick transition flows into a bamboo shank, providing a warm-hued counterpart to the jet-black vulcanite stem. These two elements join at a push-style arrangement, always ensuring a tight tenon-and-mortise fit.
