German Estates: Rainer Barbi Smooth Elephant's Foot (NG) (C) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-005-6632
Rainer Barbi began carving pipes in 1974, learning the art independently through experimentation and trial-and-error. Eventually, Barbi became the foremost pipe maker in Germany with his work being sought after by smokers around the world. Barbi's pipes are commonly dressed in vibrant, bright stains that showcase exquisite grain that are complemented by understated hardwood accents. Sadly, Barbi passed away in 2011, leaving behind a legendary pipe making legacy.
The Elephant's Foot shape was originally pioneered by Swedish pipe maker Bo Nordh, utilizing supple panels to frame exceptional grain. Here, Barbi lends his talents to the Elephant's Foot shape. The bulging fore wraps into the curvaceous underside that flows into the well-bent shank, forming a near-perfect semi-circle that showcases an unbroken stretch of mesmerizing bridseye swirls. The flanks continue the voluptuous theme, protruding outwards as they frame sweeping cross grain between crisp ridgelines. Furthermore, the bowl is dressed in one of Barbi's iconic chestnut smooth finishes, highlighting each wisp of grain in stunning, bright hues. Out back, the shank rises to a blonde hardwood accent that joins to a jet-black vulcanite stem, which facilitates a relaxed smoking posture that ensures a comfortable clench.
