German Estates: Design Berlin Maritim Sandblasted Oom Paul (90) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-005-6823
Design Berlin's history began in 1948, when Hubert Hartmann, after the Second World War, opened the Pfeifenstudio Hartmann factory, later rebranding to Design Berlin in 1975 to align with their new, more modern design principle and higher quality construction. Outside of Vauen, Design Berlin is the largest manufacturer of pipes in Germany, though Design Berlin's pipes usually take on a less standardized shaping, with this Oom Paul showcasing a particularly striking silhouette. Deeply bent, as an Oom Paul should be, this pipe features a nearly vertical shank that rises with a sleek taper from the tight transition, meeting a smartly curved saddle stem of black vulcanite. Up front, the bowl stands on a firm heel and grows tall walls that make a cylindrical travel to the flat rim, offering plenty of chamber to appreciate. Dressed in a crisp sandblast and earthy stain, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout, with a large field of blasted birdseye across the left flank of the bowl.
