Irish Estates: Peterson St. Patrick's Day 2020 (68) (Fishtail) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-004-8641
One of Peterson's more classically English shapes, the "68" bent Brandy serves as a curvaceous sibling to the "69" bent Billiard. The "68" features less of the Irish marque's signature style of stout shanks and hearty transitions, instead placing more emphasis on the bowl, with the rounded base and slight taper toward the rim softening the profile. The added briar at the base makes for a substantial in hand feel, and the tapering rim, stretching transition, and comparatively slender shank conform well to wrapped fingers. Fitted on the end of a lithe bend, it's a piece that's comfortable no matter how you choose to hold it, catering well to all smoking postures.
Alongside the Sherlock Holmes Collection and annual Christmas and Pipe of the Year lines, Peterson's perennial St. Patrick's Day series is one of the marque's most collectible offerings, marked by a color palette and aesthetic unique to the specific year, yet always with a distinctly Irish motif. The 2020 edition celebrates the limited line's 23rd consecutive release, and this year's pipes feature Peterson's signature emerald stain covering an extra-craggy sandblast — thanks to the Sallynoggin factory's updated, artisanal sandblasting set-up — and paired to a bright nickel army mount. This is a pipe that appreciates Peterson's heritage and esteemed quality, adding modern finishing techniques to the firm's iconic, timeless shaping style.-Jeffery Sitts
