Italian Estates: Tommaso Spanu Smooth Freehand (A) (F) (2003)

Product Number: 004-006-8278

Tommaso Spanu makes a lot of novel designs, and in this case he seems to come up with a hybrid of a sturdy, neoclassical bent Dublin, and. a snail? Well, that's what appears to be going on here to my eyes, at least, with that unusual, rather organic-looking, smooth, arcing flat running along the underside of the bowl. And if that's the snail's foot, that would of course make the bowl its shell, in which case the the curving band of flame grain rolling up from shank to rim would be all the more appropriate.
