Italian Estates: Savinelli Capri Root Briar (814)

Product Number: 004-006-8608

The "814" is a very popular shape under the Savinelli brand, and thus is seen across many, many lines including the Baronet Buyere, Hercules, and the Champagne. Though crossing different series, the pipe's novel take on the Lumberman shape stays pretty much intact, with maybe some minor alterations here and there--the Hercules and the Baronet being, of course, more generously proportioned--but generally the primary difference resides in the finish. If the Capri Root Briar was only made for that purpose, it was well worth it because the rustication presented here is unlike any I've seen: less mineral, more organic, resembling the bark of some strange shrub or hide of an amphibian. What is truly remarkable, though, is the price, which was probably, at one time, running into the triple digits, now a very reasonable $65.
