Italian Estates: Le Nuvole Sandblasted Liverpool with Boxwood (S2) (Cloud)
Product Number: 004-006-25558
Meaning "the clouds" in Italian the Le Nuvole brand was created by Maurizio Tombari in 1996 after the respected pipemaker enjoyed a career at both Mastro de Paja and Ser Jacopo. This lengthy Liverppol offering from Tombari is one of the most traditionally inclined pieces I've seen from the Italian artisan, a drastic departure from his whimsical Freehand designs and lithely bent shapes. Typically, Italian pipes are known for their robust size and dramatic proportions, but this piece retains a more classically English style with softer lines throughout. Finished in a low-profile sandblast, the bowl displays an abundance of ring grain with the textured peaks stained a lighter color. A pale ring of boxwood accents the shank end, standing out in stark contrast against the rest of the piece's dark color palette.- Jeffery Sitts
