Italian Estates: Castello Collection Great Line Bent Dublin with Pietra Paesina (KKKK) (2001) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-006-25480
Exquisite streaks of flame grain, a rim of craggy plateau, and unabashedly bold Italian proportions all combine here to create one of the most sought-after Castello pipes: The Collection Great Line. What makes this bent Dublin truly unique and sets it apart from other Great Lines is the addition of an exotic pietra paesina around the stem base. At first glance, it initially appears to resemble some sort of spalted hardwood, but pietra paesina is actually a type of sedimentary stone from compressed limestone and clay that has been prized for hundreds of years. And while the Italian workshop commonly utilizes gold leaf, briar, and silver as accenting materials, pietra paesina is rarely used. There's truly no telling when another one may come around, making this an incredibly unique piece that will surely be the centerpiece of any collection and be the envy of any Castello devotee. Not to mention, this piece has remained unsmoked since it was carved back in 2001.- Jeffery Sitts
