Italian Estates: Castello Trademark Bent Dublin with Silver (34) (G) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-25481
Stamped with the shape number "34," this Castello offering corresponds to the 1/4 bent, oval shanked bent Dublin found on their shape chart. It's an excellent representation of Castello's approach to the timeless shape, continuing the workshop's tradition of adding whimsical, dramatic touches to classic shapes. Such an approach is particularly evident in the broad rim's undulating orientation, adding a touch of playfulness to the design's bold silhouette. The "G" stamp is one of the workshop's largest size designations, denoting pieces on par with house pipes in their increased bowl height and chamber depth. Seemingly as an ironic juxtaposition to the obvious Italian shaping cues, though, the finish is quite conservative, the stummel's rich, ruby tones calling to mind Dunhill's iconic Bruyere stain. A sterling silver band further accentuates this piece's classic appeal and it's available here in unsmoked condition.- Jeffery Sitts
