Italian Estates: Davide Iafisco Sandblasted Billiard (2018)
Product Number: 004-006-26692
Here's where we see Davide Iafisco's Danish and American influences. The cheeking of the bowl at the transition is clearly Danish, as is the rounded, smooth rim, and the wide shank treatment and stem work point to North America, specifically to Jeff Gracik, with whom Davide spent some time. This is a rather small pipe, though not too small, and could be a useful pocket pipe, though it's also perfect for driving or any activity where easy clenching is necessary. The sandblast is craggy and wandering, with little in the way of consistent ring grain, though it is not needed here and bothers me not at all. The shape is the eye-catcher; with a wide shank, nearly the width of the bowl, it looks diminutive in silhouette, but beefy from top or bottom. A classic with obvious design upgrades, this piece should be in your cabinet.- Chuck Stanion
