Italian Estates: Davide Iafisco Sandblasted Bent Egg (3)
Product Number: 004-006-29438
A rather Danish take on the bent Egg, this handsome piece from Davide Iafisco pairs the artisan's penchant for Italian neoclassical proportions with beautiful Danish line work. The slope of the bowl's aft side is broad and subtle, which in contrast to the more rounded form of the fore creates the illusion of a forward cant, or at least a strong forward motion in profile. That implied motion, in turn, works remarkably well with the quick, arcing lines of the flared shank. The result is a dynamic silhouette in profile, in a briar that's modestly sized enough for convenient transportation. It's finished here in a detailed, extra-dark sandblast, highlighting the rippling array of ring grain undulating around the bowl.- Andrew Wike
