Italian Estates: Castello Collection Occhio di Pernice Bent Egg
Product Number: 004-006-32498
Housing no shortage of chamber within its thick insulating walls, the bowl of this bent Egg from Castello features the supple curvature and plump, softly rounded heel expected from the shape. The high-kicking shank is bolstered by a military mount that gives way to an arcing tapered stem of jet-black acrylic, offering a sinuous S-curve that practically begs to hang from the jaw. The slender, elegant shank-and-stem combination adds a willowy note to the pipe's profile that offsets the bold proportions of the bowl. What's truly breathtaking about this pipe is the grain, dressed in one of the Italian marque's warm, ruddy smooth finishes. The exquisite constellations of birdseye across the flanks of the bowl offer a hypnotic, luscious aesthetic to the stummel that captures the eye. Castello bestowed the Occhio di Pernice to this pipe, nomenclature reserved for shapes that possess truly exceptional birdseye.--Davin Hylton
