Italian Estates: Castello Antiquari Acorn (Reg. No.) (C.S.) (LO) (My Reserve 1948)
Product Number: 004-006-32873
Carlo Scotti founded Castello in 1947 and during those first three years or so, the pipes were stamped Mi Reserva ("My Reserve" in English). Later the Reg No stamping was added to further clarify and denote those specific pipes. This Acorn dates to 1948 and features a low-lying, round-rimmed bulbous bowl. The shaping is so precise and distinctive, it seems the pert little bowl is independent from the seamless, lithe stretch of shank and stem. Neoclassic in its proportions, though all are fairly small, the bowl maintains the focal interest. The stummel is dressed in an early version of the dark, sandblasted Antiquari finish, pairing wonderfully with the sleek, handmade vulcanite stem. This vintage classic is certain to appeal to collectors of early Italian pipes or for those who enjoy the classics.-Angela Robertson
