Italian Estates: Ser Jacopo Picta Magritte Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Silver (05) (S3) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-34027
The late Giancarlo Guidi was an avid art collector and enthusiast. So much of an enthusiast, in fact, that he created the Picta line — a series inspired by pipes featured in the works of major artists like van Gogh, Miro, and Magritte. For inspiration for these designs, he looked to his various monographs, which often feature images of the unfinished or otherwise more obscure work of one artist or another, as well as their famous pieces. One of those lesser-known works was the inspiration for this rather whimsical bent Dublin shape, sourced from the Magritte painting The Pipes Enamored at the Moon (1928) — a painting that we've been unable to uncover anywhere else. It's finished in the workshop's Spongia sandblast, with the rim reveals pinpricks of blasted birdseye and a stylish, ornate band of silver lending contrast.- Angela Robertson
