Italian Estates: Moretti Smooth Morta Dublin (2020) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Quite a stout rendition of the Dublin, this piece from Moretti stretches out to nearly six inches long and holds a bowl that rises to over two inches in height. Additionally, this piece is an example of the Italian workshop's penchant for crafting pipes from alternative materials, in this case morta. The shank and stem are possessed of a diamond shape which sees crisp ridgelines ebb out of a wide transition, the two on the flanks pushing into the sides of the bowl and curving to form a panel on the underside which then flows into the lower ridge of the shank. This creates a firm heel which the bowl stands atop, flaring out to its softly domed rim and standing proudly upright, its thick, insulating walls offering a smoking experience free from discomfort. Unlike many other pipes made from the partially-fossilized bog oak, this piece is finished smooth, revealing its unique grain patterns in a glossy, understated fashion.
