Italian Estates: Unknown Rusticated Bent Billiard with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-35289

A handsome and quite reserved rendition of the bent Billiard, this piece from an unknown carver presents with an arcing stretch of shank and stem that's positively graceful. The profile here is slightly reminiscent of certain "Swan Neck" bent Billiard designs, though this iteration doesn't quite feature enough upward trajectory at the shank. The stem is a sleek taper of black acrylic that's accented at the base with a broad, domed fitment of Horn, continuing a taper present through the shank and allowing it to culminate in a rounded edge that keeps things looking rather soft through the stummel. A sweeping heel and low-set waistline support the bowl's easy taper to the rim, its plentiful curves offering a comfortable feel in hand. The surface of the stummel is covered in a dark, craggy rustication that provides a wealth of texture, the finish contrasted by light, smooth areas at the rim and nomenclature panel.
