Italian Estates: Castello Le Dune Opera (2020) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

American pipemaker Rich Lewis crafts a finish similar to this Castello Le Dune texture, calling it his Armadillo, but Rich makes so few pipes that it's a rare sight when we see one here. Castello's own treatment, though, is equally impressive, with a telescoping sort of pattern climbing the bowl like reptilian armor. It's in a light finish to further highlight the texture, and while most prominent on the bowl, the treatment rides down the shank as well, until terminating with a white accent band before the black saddle mouthpiece. The bowl is oval, longer than wide, as is required of the Opera shape, which is meant to ride in a pocket without generating an unsightly bulge in one's tuxedo jacket. Unsmoked.
