Italian Estates: Castello Collection Fiammata Freehand IPCPR 2019 (03.18) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-35757

If you already have one of these, forgive the repetition, but I'm betting you don't: Only 18 were made. This Castello is big, at over three inches tall, and 6 inches long, with a beefy character that more than fills the palm. Commemorating the IPCPR Trade Show in 2019, it's a remarkable Freehand with multiple layers of interest. This particular member of the release is part of the Fiammata line, designating only those pipes from the workshop that showcase excellent flame grain, and it's here been dressed in a light, honeyed stain. The rim is crowned in plateau, echoing the rustication of the heel and shank, both of which are craggy and deep with surface carving. A very slight bend of the stem brings a little more balance to the composition, and the jet-black acrylic contrasts the hues of the stummel for added visual intrigue. Densely-packed flame grain on the bowl rises from the volcanic rock aesthetic of the heel and shank in fine, angel-hair lines, straight on the left and veering into flame grain on the right. Substantial in hand and containing all the elements that make Castello so admired.
