Italian Estates: Mimmo Provenzano Smooth Acorn (B) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

A lithe, sinuous, and pleasantly compact rendition of the Acorn, this pipe from Mimmo Provenzano is a lovely example of the shape, thanks to its wealth of curves. The stem's saddle shape and demure downturn lend the aft side a touch of extra gracefulness, and the gentle flare of its base introduces some extremely subtle dynamism to the combination. A wide transition allows for the easy draping of a digit and leads to the bowl smoothly, setting the shank low on the bowl and allowing the lines of the shank to support the bowl's underside. There's a sweeping undercurve here which builds a bit of momentum as the briar approaches the bowl, before expanding into the bowl's high-set waist with a rich curvature that is quite comfortable in the hand. The walls of the bowl provide both ample insulation for the chamber and plenty of room to display the stummel's deep, chestnut-hued stain, as well as the rich grain that it reveals.
