Italian Estates: Jacono Partially Rusticated Canadian (1) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-36058
The Canadian shape is not one we've seen a whole lot of from Tonino Jacono in the past. That's not to say he can't knock the design out of the park, which is what he's done in this example. The overall approach is Italian to boot, with a visually heavy bowl followed by a trimmer, more streamlined shank-and-stem configuration of some length. A warm, mahogany stain reveals some lovely licks of flame grain, especially on the left flank and fore. Additionally, this piece wears two finishes, as most of the stummel is smooth, but with the extra benefit of a dark patch of rustication on part of the heel, extending a bit into the underside of the shank, for delightful textural appeal.
