Italian carver Mimmo Provenzano takes traditional forms and lends them a neoclassical sense of proportions and a more modern stance. This straight Rhodesian is a fine example of his style, with the lofty bowl here carrying a lot of the visual weight — seemingly propelled forward in profile by the subtly tapering shank-and-stem arrangement. A pair of beadlines wraps the top of the bowl and demarcates the tapered rim from the flaring heel, while an auburn stain dresses the stummel and highlights some fetching flame grain across the bowl's flanks.
