This Freehand from Luigi Viprati balances fluid lines with structural rigidity, resulting in a shape equal parts supple and muscular. The bowl is quite organic of form, presenting a dimpled fore that's emphasized by crisp ridgelines around the rim and the bowl's waist. The rim's raised fore accentuates the bowl's height and build and adds a touch of dynamism to the shape's silhouette, as it works in conjunction with the lifted heel to lend the overall composition a forward-urging posture. A sprawling shank-and-stem arrangement brings up the rear and adds a languid curvature to the form, ensuring a comfortable smoking posture. Dressed in a honey-blonde smooth finish, the stummel displays stunning flame grain across the flanks of the bowl, the grain here than worthy of its Fiamatta designation. Unsmoked.
