Italian Estates: Castello Sea Rock Briar Bent Zulu (K) (30) (1970s-1982) Tobacco Pipe

While Castello no longer uses shape numbers in their current production lines, there are some that have stuck with their designs — the "55" bent Pot and "10" Brucianaso both come to mind in particular. Offered here is the Italian workshop's "38" Zulu/Yachtsman. Renditions differ in regards to length and proportions, and this vintage number from between the '70s and 1982 is of the more compact variety, though still one with plenty of the chamber. It's a sleek, forward-urging design, marked by a firm heel and steadily flaring profile. It's dressed in the inky rustication of the Sea Rock series, the stummel's jet-black coloration contrasted strikingly by its pairing to a sleek, shimmering saddle stem.
