Granato, meaning Garnet, is the second in the five grades of Gem Series pipes from Ser Jacopo (Emerald, Garnet, Sapphire, Ruby and Diamond). Belonging to that line and grade, this bent Billiard represents some of Ser Jacopo's best work, as they reserve its ranks for those pipes that display only the best grain and shaping. Shape-wise, this is a strikingly classical interpretation of the chart-standard, with a proportionally muscular shank and bowl that offer a reassuring fit in hand. The great deal of substance here has earned this pipe a single "Maxima" stamp, denoting its robust build. The grain of this piece is wonderfully tight, and rises up the towering bowl to terminate in a taut rim that's speckled with birdseye. A small, garnet-style gem is set in the jet-black stem for a pleasant contrast. A large silver "Delecta" mount and warm, rich auburn stain on the stummel further enhance this Gem. Unsmoked.
