Italian Estates: Mauro Armellini Smooth Standing Cavalier (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Most of the Cavalier shapes you see today aren't actually "functional" Cavaliers β i.e. they don't feature a removable cap below the bowl to release excess moisture. This piece from Mauro Armellini, however, is a true example of the old shape, and quite a functional one at that, including a descending, capped foot that allows the pipe to stand, and which unscrews to reveal the shape's iconic moisture trap. This trap is lined with cotton to absorb even more moisture and prevent it from travelling back up the draft channel. The shank and stem take on a near vertical orientation, while a flared Dublin bowl erupts out of the fore, its vast rim crowned with craggy plateau. Dressed in a warm, honeyed stain, the bowl is surrounded with dense streaks of flame, making for a piece that's sure to stand out in a collection.
