Within Radice's portfolio, the Freehand shape is one of the least commonly produced profiles, though this specific example showcases one of the Italian workshop's best-represented design elements: a hearty size. The dimensions here are striking, with over two inches of height at the bowl, as well as a breadth of nearly three inches. The feel in hand here is nothing short of commanding, with plenty of surface area for the fingers to appreciate and a vast, forward-urging heel covered with a craggy, plateau-like partial rustication. A wide transition leads to a slightly lifted shank that pushes out to meet a flared boxwood fitment at the junction to a demurely curved stem of tapering black acrylic. The rim here has received a similar treatment as the heel, and the rest of the pipe is covered in a vibrant auburn stain that reveals incredible birdseye throughout the majority of the stummel.
