Italian Estates: Caminetto Partially Rusticated Pot (JN) (7.L.17) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

While many of their handmade pipes are of a more interpretive shape, this straight Pot from Caminetto represents a faithful rendition of the classic shape. The sides of a squat, broad-rimmed bowl descend rather vertically toward a very firm heel, and transition crisply to a thick shank and saddle stem combination. The shank itself is lent a slight bit of slenderness thanks to its gentle taper coming out of the wide transition, placing further emphasis on the bowl while keeping the composition robust and muscular. This piece wears a dark stain and a craggy rustication across the bowl, offering a wealth of texture while the smooth shank provides some contrast.
