Italian Estates: Don Carlos Smooth Canadian (One Note) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-38089
Along with Giancarlo Guidi, Bruto Sordini left Mastro de Paja in 1981 to form Ser Jacopo with Guidi the following year. Sordini eventually left the workshop, though, to fashion his own pipes under the Don Carlos name. Following the whimsical shaping of other Pesaro pipe makers, Bruto here presents a Canadian of impressively neoclassical proportions. The visual weight here is immediately focused on the bowl, though this bowl has been balanced rather well by the sleek stretch of oval shank that extends the length of this pipe to more than seven inches. The shank is here topped by a trim tapering stem of jet-black acrylic, completing the iconic form of this profile and continuing a slight taper present in the shank's final few inches. Dressed in a vibrant, almost natural, stain, this piece showcases a wealth of birdseye on either flank of the briar, with dense cross grain populating the midsection.
