A lesson in contrasting design cues and bold proportions, this bent Apple from Castello is one of the Italian workshop's most understated reinterpretations of the classic shape. The bowl is voluptuous and palm-filling, but that supple roundness is contrasted by the diamond shank which is paneled and ridgelined for a firmer, more structured aesthetic. The stem continues that hard-lined motif and the smart bend balances out the bowl's hearty mass. Such dimensions are welcome for a piece such as this, offering plenty of briar to showcase stunning grain underneath a vivid, walnut-hued stain.
