Italian Estates: Don Carlos Rusticated Acorn (One Note) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-38137
Along with Giancarlo Guidi, Bruto Sordini left Mastro de Paja in 1981 to form Ser Jacopo with Guidi the following year. Sordini eventually left the workshop, though, to fashion his own pipes under the Don Carlos name. Following the whimsical shaping of other Pesaro pipe makers, Bruto here presents a sleekly shaped Acorn that yet retains an air of neoclassical charm. Such charm is especially apparent given the robustness of the bowl and its presentation at the end of a slender taper of Hawkbill-like shank and stem. Said arrangement is rather lengthy, though its slimness affords the composition a sense of easy, natural balance. The bowl itself is a squat, rotund bit of briar that sits atop a protruding heel and flares upward gently to meet a high-set waist and a domed taper to the rim, offering plenty of room to showcase a dark stain and craggy rustication.
