Typically speaking, pipemakers will orient briar plateau along the rim. Here, though, Moretti has flipped that convention on its head... literally. A stolid Volcano shape, this piece features plateau along the broad base. Though craggy and uneven, the heel still allows the pipe to sit upright, the flanks tapering dramatically toward the rim. With plenty of chamber depth, plenty of flame grain, and plenty of sturdy-sitting convenience, it's lovely desk pipe candidate.
