Italian Estates: Moretti Smooth Bent Dublin (𝛿𝛿𝛿𝛿) (1) (2018) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-38584

Igino Moretti founded the Moretti Recanati brand in 1968 in Recanati, Italy, a small town with a rich pipe making history that stretches back to 1850. Igino actually worked for one of the town's largest pipe factories, before financial pressures stemming from World War 2 forced them to close in 1950. After many years, Igino handed off control of production to his son-in-law Marco Biagini, who has diversified the design principles of the workshop to include the classic profiles of Anglo-French manufacturers and Danish carvers. A fairly conservative piece from Moretti, this svelte, gently sinuous bent Dublin features a tall, forward-canting bowl that draws the eye. A more moderately sized pipe than we're used to seeing from the Italian workshop, it offers bespoke shaping and a smooth, contrast-rich stain to bring the grain to life. The rim is sloped into the chamber, and the forward cant it takes on lends the entire pipe a charmingly dynamic look. Out back, a demurely curved stem of vibrant brindled acrylic complements the stummel well without drawing undue attention away from it.
