Italian Estates: L'Anatra Smooth Tulip with Horn (Two Egg) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-39118
A rare example of the elusive Tulip shape from Italian workshop L'Anatra, this pipe is quite the hearty and lengthy piece, weighing more than a fifth of a pound and stretching out to nearly eight inches in length. At almost three inches tall, the bowl of this pipe features supple rounding around its walls, these walls tapering gently toward the rim before the rim expands rapidly. This swift flare is organic and results in a floral shape which is slightly reminiscent of lips, though readily calls to mind flower petals: a clear nod to its namesake. A trim shank and wide transition leads into a horn accent which takes on a similar shaping, unifying the fore and aft ends of this piece nicely and marrying to a demurely curved tapering stem. Dressed in a warm, auburn-tinged stain, the stummel here reveals cross grain through the flanks of the bowl and birdseye at the fore and aft.
